IN THE HEART OF THE MAGONA

Length: 19 km
Height: 370 mt
Difficulty: 2/3
Typo: mountain bike

Departure is from the centre of Bibbona towards the cemetery where the dirt road begins immediately. After about 1 km you come to a fork; go left and begin to climb through the scrub as far as the crossroads. Trail n° 5 begins on the left near a barrier. The dirt road climbs gently, first through cypress trees and then among holm and Turkey oaks, rising steeply on the last stretch before reaching the Terminino Pass (281 m asl). Here you turn right onto trail n°10, which continues to climb gradually for 1.7 km to Poggio al Fango (340 m asl) before descending to Botro Campo di Sasso valley on trail n°12 via the scenic road, which remains elevated for 3 km as far as the turn off on the right where trail n°13 begins. The first short stretch (400m) is too rough to pedal but soon becomes a comfortable, lovely gravel road lined by a double row of cypress trees that descends along the Botro Campo di Sasso. The road continues downhill past Poggio Cornetto to the bridge over Botro degli Strinati before rising again to the intersection where you go left to Bibbona.

Short alternative route (9km and 120 m elevation gain): follow the same itinerary as far as the trail n°5 barrier (2.6 km); here turn right onto the n°6 and after 300m continue for 2.3 km on trail n°9 as far as Casetta at Campo di Sasso. The road continues downhill past Poggio Cornetto to the bridge over Botro degli Strinati and then rises again to the intersection where you go left to Bibbona.

The entire route is on dirt roads through the heart of the Macchia della Magona (Magona scrub), a protected area closed to vehicle traffic and a real paradise for walking, cycling and horse riding.
